If you are replacing a Florida title that is currently in your name, please bring the following:
- Valid photo identification required (U. S. driver license or valid passport – see below for additional information)
- Owner listed on the title must be present, or
- Individuals other than the owner must have authorization Click here for the Power of Attorney (Form HSMV 82053)
- Current odometer reading (REQUIRED)
- Proof of Florida insurance may be required
- If vehicle has a current lien, the lienholder must make the application for duplicate title or you will need a satisfaction of lien (Form HSMV 82260)
- If title owner is a business, a letter on company letterhead signed by a company official signifying who is authorized to pick up title must be provided. The letter must be less than one year old
- Owners may verify the current title (electronic or printed) and lien status at https://services.flhsmv.gov/MVCheckWeb/. At the bottom left-hand corner, the row above “brands” will be marked Paper Title or Electronic Title.

Vehicle Registration
Defines “valid passport”
As of September 23, 2024, customers filing an application for a vehicle registration must provide a valid driver license or identification card issue by the state of Florida or another U.S. State or territory, or a valid passport which is now defined as:
An unexpired passport or passport card issued by the United States government; or
An unexpired passport issued by the government of another country with:A stamp or mark affixed by the
United States Department of Homeland Security onto the passport to evidence and authorize lawful presence in the United States; or
An unexpired I-94 or current permanent resident card, or unexpired immigrant visa, issued by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
