Kids Tag Art is an elementary school art project that inspires students to design their own specialty plate, learning the practical application of tag art and fashioned after Florida’s 120 specialty license plates. This program, initiated by Janet Holley, former Escambia County Tax Collector, is modeled after a program started by the Polk County Tax Collector. Partnering with the Escambia County School District, the Tax Collector’s office is excited to offer this unique curriculum in Escambia County.
Purchasing Kids Tag Art Supports Local Schools
Parents, as well as their family and friends, have an opportunity to purchase their student’s “tag art” through their child’s school. (These tags are strictly art and cannot be used as legal identification on the rear of the vehicle.) All proceeds from the sales stay with the art department of each school. Additional donations are raised through sponsorships.
Each year, winning plate designs from each participating school are selected for awards. Winning tags are displayed on our website and are available for sale to the public. Additional recognition is given for the Tax Collector’s Choice Award and the Superintendent’s Choice Award.
As we end our sixth year with the Kids Tag Art program, we are excited to highlight the 17 schools that participated! The School District’s Fine Arts Specialist, Angela Barberi, worked with art teachers throughout Escambia County on this curriculum beginning in September 2018. We’re excited to see this program grow to raise funds for the Art Departments in our local schools.
