SAFE Designation:
Individuals with autism, dementia, or PTSD can add a “SAFE” designation to their vehicle registration. This alerts law enforcement in the Florida system to potential communication issues without displaying the diagnosis itself.
The SAFE designation, created by the Florida Legislature, allows individuals or parents and guardians to voluntarily add a designation to their vehicle registration record indicating that a driver or passenger may have a condition that could affect communication or interaction during an emergency or traffic stop.
Law Enforcement Access: This designation ensures that when a vehicle license plate is run, law enforcement is informed of potential special needs, aiding in safe interactions.
